Our Day Trip Experience from Marmaris to Pamukkale
A Day Full of Travertines, Ancient Pools, and Thermal Waters
During our Marmaris holiday, we wanted to try something different and witness one of nature’s most stunning formations. So we joined a day trip to Pamukkale, a journey filled with white travertine terraces, ancient ruins, and healing thermal waters. The tour started early in the morning and lasted until the evening, making it a full and satisfying experience.
Morning Pickup and Departure
We were picked up from our hotel in the morning. Breakfast boxes were handed out on the bus, and we set off toward Denizli, our first destination. The 3.5-hour journey included a short break and was quite comfortable. During the ride, our guide gave us background information about Pamukkale and Hierapolis to prepare us for the visit.
️ Visit to Hierapolis Ancient City and Necropolis
Once we arrived in Pamukkale, our first stop was a guided tour of Hierapolis Ancient City. Key highlights included:
The ancient theater
Roman bath complexes
Necropolis area
Various impressive ruins throughout the site
Our guide shared in-depth historical insights. The ruins were stunning, and there were plenty of chances to take great photos.
♀️ Pamukkale Travertines and Thermal Pools
Next, we headed to the iconic travertine terraces. Walking barefoot is mandatory on the calcium-rich surface—but it’s absolutely worth it. The flowing thermal water and the natural pools at various levels were visually stunning.
The water temperature was around 35°C (95°F)
The mix of warm water and cool breeze made it a pleasant experience
♀️ Cleopatra’s Ancient Pool (Optional, Extra Fee)
Entrance to Cleopatra’s Pool was optional. Swimming among ancient columns submerged in warm mineral water was truly memorable. It was a bit crowded, but the setting was perfect for photos and videos.
️ Open Buffet Lunch
After the sightseeing, we stopped at a local restaurant for a buffet-style lunch. The menu included cold mezes, hot main courses, desserts, and fresh fruit—plenty to fill up on. Drinks were extra. It was a nice time to rest and chat about the tour.
Return Trip
After lunch, we began the journey back to Marmaris. Another 3.5-hour drive brought us back to our hotel in the evening.
Our Final Thoughts
A stunning mix of natural beauty and ancient history
Don’t let the long travel time discourage you—the ride is comfortable with breaks
Perfect for photography lovers and history enthusiasts
If you skip the Cleopatra Pool, the travertines alone are more than enough
The Pamukkale tour from Marmaris was one of the most unforgettable day trips of our holiday. The combination of travertines, ruins, and thermal waters makes it a must-see. We highly recommend it.
